Are You Sure The Food Labels You Are Buying Are Organic or Even Natural?

I was surprised to read about the decisions that Whole Foods and other giants, like United Natural Foods, have recently made.  I have always assumed companies such as these were on the side of local and organic producers.  Some of the decisions are directly in line with Monsanto, biochemical giant of genetically modified foods.

A few of the surprising revelations I read are Whole Foods’ 365 brand “organic” frozen vegetables are made in China.  Organic certification is left up to third-party contractors who may not have the same standards as the US.  Most of Whole Foods’ hot bar and salad bar items are not organic.  Stoneyfield Farm, Organic Valley and Whole Foods have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of genetically engineered crops and are ready to sit down and cut a deal for “coexistence” with Monsanto and USDA biotech leaders.

Here is a link to a press release from Organic Consumers Association about “The Organic Elite Surrender(ing) to Monsanto.”  Also, please take a moment to watch this Youtube video uncovering Whole Foods’ supposed organic line:

The best options do remain:  Buy local.  Buy organic.  Grow your own.
