Homemade Kale Chips

Posted on January 22, 2011

The kids made our side dish of homemade Kale Chips for our Fast Food Friday dinner last night.  Although, the chips do not have a taste just like a potato chip, they definitely have that crunch.  Given that, the oil and the salt, I think they definitely qualify for our Southern Saturday dish!

Kale Chips were a first for us, and we will definitely have them again.  The kids were literally counting each other’s chips, when we got to the bottom of the bowl, to make sure they each got their fair share.  And of course, I loved how easy it was for them to prep the dish.

Kale Chips:

Have kids pull kale out of the refrigerator and set the oven to 375°.

Put kale into gallon-size Ziploc bag.  (Yes, that’s the floor.  I know, sanitary, right)?!

Pour a couple tablespoons of olive oil and a couple teaspoons of sea salt into bag with kale.  Shake (or have the kids play a quick game of catch with it).  Then, spread kale out into a single layer on baking sheet.  Remove any thick ribs.

Bake for 35 minutes or until mostly crisp.
