Vegan Disney Dining

Posted on January 18, 2011

Yesterday’s post got me in the Disney mood!  I thought it would be fun to share our recent vegan Disney dining adventures with you.

I have a couple of tips and photos to share today.  Tomorrow, I will be passing along the information that Disney sent to me last week that outlines which vegan products they offer and which restaurants carry them.

My first suggestion is to remember to always state your preferences when you make your dining reservations.  If you reserve online, there is not a box to select vegan or vegetarian, but there are options like shellfish and dairy allergies that I select.  Disney also requests that you inform the host or hostess upon check-in, as well as your server once seated.  (Once, we forgot this last step and they brought a tray of food out to our table that we could not eat, even though we had made the request on our reservation and at check-in).

A site that I like to use for reviews and to view menus, in addition to the Disney Dining page, is All Ears.  They also provide tips on planning your day.  I used the site to plan W’s 3rd birthday.  We ate at Animal Kingdom, and thanks to reviews, I was able to figure out how to maneuver getting my family checked-in for breakfast while still being able to pick-up safari fast passes for just after breakfast.

So, on to the food!

The Wave…of American Flavors at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

We ate breakfast at The Wave last month before spending the day taking in all the resort decorations and visiting EPCOT for the Storyteller’s Around the World.  With a day like that planned, can you believe I forgot my camera and had to use my camera phone?!  I am thankful to have the photos though, blurry as they may be.

The Chef at The Wave was extremely nice.  He came to out to our table, joked with the kids and had lots of suggestions.  He offered to make a fresh batch of vegan pancake batter, even though we were the last breakfast diners!  In addition to vegan pancakes, he made a nice berry syrup, BIG bowls of fresh fruit and herb-roasted breakfast potatoes.  They even offered Earth Balance!

A couple of years ago, we also enjoyed a nice breakfast at the Ohana character breakfast at the Polynesian resort.   They serve a very filling tofu scramble with lots of veggies.

Cinderella’s Royal Table at Magic Kingdom

Here is a shot of part of the lunch menu at Cinderella’s Royal Table.  If you would like to read more about the delicious Vegetarian Cassoulet we were served, check out yesterday’s post for that and my replica crock pot recipe.

Bistro de Paris

Isn’t the menu darling?  My husband and I, along with baby M, finally dined at Bistro de Paris Saturday night.  I say finally because I have wanted (and tried on several occasions, but they were booked) to eat here.  We lucked up this time since I only called two days in advance for reservations.

Again, the staff was wonderful here.  The chef and manager visited our table at least three times to ensure we had everything we needed.  We left the entrée creativity up to the chef.  For appetizers, my husband ordered the butternut squash soup and I had this:

My appetizer:  salad with vinaigrette, sautéed onions, raspberry vinaigrette, avocado mousse, tiny sweet cornbread bite and a delicious tomato chutney.  This is on the appetizer menu paired with fish.  They were more than happy to bring the appetizer minus the animal protein, and per their suggestion, with larger portions of everything else!

Here is a photo of my entrée:

And a photo of my love.  Notice the EPCOT fireworks show, Illuminations, in the window in the background.  If you dine here at night, you can request a window table if one is available to better view the show.

My final Disney dining tip for the day is if you are a Florida resident, check into the Wild 4 Disney Pass.  We just bought it for my husband since the kids and I mostly go during the week for home school field trips.  It is a 4 day pass good through mid-May (one week black-out in April) that equals out to be just under $30 per day!  So, now, go and enjoy some vegan Disney food!
