Vegan Halloween Treats

Posted on October 26, 2010

My little goblins look forward to Halloween every year.  They love dressing up, they love the parties and they love collecting the candy even when they know they will not eat most of it.  The reason is they are ok with collecting candy they won’t eat is because they know they’ll get an awesome natural candy stash from Mom once we are home!

We have fun picking out “healthy” treats for Halloween.  In addition to being vegan, we also avoid high fructose corn syrup and food dyes.  So, we usually head to the local supermarket and the health food store.  While shopping, the goblins keep in mind that I keep a nice stash of these treats they are picking out to swap with them once they have collected their own bounty.  Plus, I usually sneak something extra into the buggy when they are not looking, so they are surprised once we do our swap.

This year we are doing the Halloween pretzel packs from Snyder’s,

Yummy Earth Lollipops,

Enjoy Life’s Boom Choco Boom Bars (Click HERE for a $0.75/2 coupon)

and Glee Gum (a very popular treat amongst my goblins). (The Oviedo Chamberlain’s has the Bubble Gum flavor on sale for $0.75.  Click HERE for a BOGO coupon good through 12/31/10).

Check out PETA’s list of dandy vegan candy.  You can show it to your child prior to trick-or-treating, so they know what to opt for if one of their stops has options.  Another cool site (because I really do feel like a kid in a candy store when I visit) is the Natural Candy Store.  They have a huge assortment of vegan candies for Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Easter, etc.

And if you go with pretzels versus candy, check out this pretzel roller coaster craft.  We will definitely be building this to supplement my son’s architecture enrichment class!

Have a Happy Halloween!
