A Very Cherry Breakfast

One of the locally owned cafés where we had lunch during our Wisconsin trip the week before last serves up food made with local produce and has lots of veg options.  Cindy’s Cafe’, which has a lovely gift shop inside, is part of the Wisconsin Dells Craft Mall.  The mall houses a huge market that sells handmade items by local artists, another large store with antiques and the Wisconsin Opry.  I could have spent all day here, as well as my kids.

The treasure my daughter found was a purple Barbie dress handmade by a lady who lives in a nearby Wisconsin town.  My son found a handmade wooden frame with his name carved into it, and they both picked out a handmade wooden train for the baby.  In addition to the framed print of a little girl who looks just like my daughter, my favorite find was the homemade Slack’s Cherry Butter.

This morning we tried the Cherry Butter on toasted whole wheat bagels along with Cherry Cordial Smoothies.  Yum!  I can’t wait to make my own cherry butter.  The ingredients list is simple and wholesome:

  • Red Pie Cherries
  • Dark Bing Cherries
  • Sugar
  • Brown Sugar
  • Pectin
  • Cinnamon
  • Citric Acid
  • And the Occasional Pit
