His hit song may have been “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” but Jimmy Buffett scored another hit when he put this veggie burger on the Frank and Lola Love Pensacola restaurant menu. This was the best veggie burger I have yet to taste. My husband voted his number three on his list (not taking into account the view and ambiance that comes along with it).
Our last day on the island, our family spent the day eating. Literally, we went for breakfast at a local café, had Beach Pops for snack and a birthday dinner with my in-laws at a sound-side restaurant. Somehow, in between all this eating, we managed to sneak in lunch at the brand new Margaritaville Hotel. I highly suggest stopping in if you’re on Pensacola Beach as the restaurant has the best second story beach dining views on the island.
Our burgers arrived with a nice side salad, and of course I enjoyed a nice margarita on the rocks (with salt) to go along with my meal as well. I somehow expected to bite into a mediocre patty, but when I tasted my sandwich I was positively mistaken. The sandwich had that flame-grilled taste that used to make a burger a burger to me in my pre-veg days.
I know of one other restaurant around that offers veggie burgers, and am very happy to add this lovely beach side restaurant to our vegan-friendly dining options. The Margaritaville “playground” located between the hotel and Buffett’s Land Shark Landing Bar is a nice after dinner place to relax in a hammock or pickup a quick beanbag game. There are also several fire pits surrounded by palm trees and Adirondack chairs if you want to hang out for a while enjoying the surf as you contemplate going back in for a second margarita!
